LOS ANGELES – It was more than just a West Coast/East Coast battle tonight, with small side stories being the focus of the affair. The final result was the Los Angeles Kings shutting out the Buffalo Sabres in a 2-0 win.
Goaltenders, Jonathan Quick (Kings) and Ryan Miller (Sabres) are the two standouts for the United States Hockey Team that will be going to the 2014 Sochi in January. The two goaltenders aren’t fighting each other physically, but more on the stat sheet and scouting report for who will be the true starter for Team USA. Though the battle was put on hold with Miller sitting on the bench, Jonathan Quick made his point as to why he should be the standout between the two. Quick got his first shutout of the season, saving 19 shots, in what was his most impressive game of the season so far.
It was a low scoring contest that started with the first goal coming late in the first period. On a powerplay, Jake Muzzin set up a goal deflected in off the stick of Mike Richards. I have to note Muzzin due to the way the goal occured, and how he was the actual highlight of the score. Muzzin stuttered his shot just long enough to find a lane to the net, where Richards was able to deflect it in, but what Muzzin did with his stutter through off the defense in front of the goalie, and also the goalie himself.
The second and final goal came in the middle of the second period when Anze Kopitar found the back of the net on the powerplay as well. Kopitar faked a shot and sent a pass to Drew Doughty who sent it back to the creeping Kopitar, who wristed a one-timer to the back of the net from behind the defense.
Sometimes under minded because they suffered the loss, the opposing goaltender for Buffalo had an outstanding night in net himself. Swedish prospect, Jhonas Enroth, finished the night saving 26 of the 28 shots he faced.
On a “cool note” for Kings fans, Kings prospect, Linden Vey, made his National Hockey League debut tonight. Vey had one giveaway, along with a 38% faceoff percentage in his 11 minutes and 28 seconds of ice time tonight.

Three Stars of the Game:
1. Jonathan Quick, LAK (17 saves, 0 goals against)
