Howie Kendrick Hits “Little League Home Run” In Angels 7-3 Win Over The Blue Jays

ANAHEIM – Oh, the oddity, and wonder that is Angels baseball. To the disagreeance of many, the Angels are still in the hunt for a “red October” and they’re getting closer and closer to it every night. Tonight, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim made it three of three so far in this four game series against the Toronto Blue Jays, with a 7-3 win.

The bottom of the fifth inning was the big event of the affair, as four runs came across for the Angels in dramatic fashion. Kole Calhoun (remember the name) lead the inning off with his second career home run to the same spot as his first, that happened last night. Esmil Rogers must not have been very happy with the home run as he dinged the next batter, Mike Trout, in the bicep, and was then followed by a single from Josh Hamilton. Then the fun began, as Howie Kendrick sent a liner into center field. The throw from Colby Rasmus was a little off and Trout was able to score easily, however, J.P. Arencibia wanted to extend the play a little longer, throwing to second to try and get the advancing Kendrick. The went wild and landed deep into center field, and Hamilton and Kendrick were able to come home easily for what some joked about as a Little League home run for Howie Kendrick.

Jered Weaver put up another bid for his Cy Young campaign, going a strong 7.2 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, striking out the side in the fifth and adding two more over the night for 5 “K’s” over the affair. All three runs off Weaver came from extra base hits, two that were doubles from  Jose Bautista and Colby Rasmus, and one being a leadoff home run from Canadian Brett Lawrie. Weaver walked just two in 108 pitches, the final two batters he faced.

Blue Jays reliever Brad Lincoln had an outstanding sixth, seventh, and eighth innings, as he faced the minimum, walking one (Trout) but getting the double play to keep him at a minimum.

Tonight was Mike Trout jersey giveaway for the youngster today, as kids aged 3-14 were given Trout alternate red jerseys as they arrived to the ballpark. On Trout giveaway nights, Mike Trout does a pretty decent job, as he went 1-for-2 tonight with two runs, and it made him 11-for-20 on his giveaway nights, including a cycle on his pint glass giveaway night.

Last night, Hamilton, Kendrick, and Trout went a combined 1-for-11, but it was a totally different story tonight, as the three combined for a 5-for-10 performance.
Final from Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California:

Blue Jays, 3    Angels, 7

W – Jered Weaver (6-5, 2.90)

L – Esmil Rogers (3-6, 4.61)
