Los Angeles Kings Re-Sign Local Talent, Brandon Kozun

Local boy is staying local, according to Los Angeles Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi, who announced today that the team had re-signed Brandon Kozun for one year.

Kozun, 23, is a local to Los Angeles, California, home of who else, but the Los Angeles Kings. The Kings selected Kozun in the sixth round (179th overall selection) in the 2009 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

After four years of playing juniors with the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League, Kozun has played the past three seasons with the Kings American Hockey League affiliate Manchester Monarchs. Over those three seasons, Kozun put up three consecutive 20-goal seasons and average 23 per those three seasons, along with a 27 assists average. Along with that, Kozun was voted by the Manchester fans Union Leader Fan Favorite this past season.

The signing of Kozun really shows that the young Kings prospect could be an NHL talent. Kozun, although short of stature and size (5-foot-8, 166 lbs) is a “grinder” on the ice, and finds ways to score. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Kozun in the black, silver, and white within the first few months of the 2013/2014 season.
